The 5 Best Pocket Alternatives in 2026

5 products compared · 11 community reviews · Updated October 2026

If you need a Pocket alternative, you are not alone. Mozilla shut Pocket down, and the people who used it every day now have a reading list with nowhere to live. Others had already started drifting away because they wanted their saves stored locally, wanted to keep social media posts and not just articles, or wanted a tool that felt faster on their device.

The good news is that the tools filling the gap are often more focused than Pocket was. Some are quick capture libraries for your Mac, some save from any app on your iPhone, and some are built for the posts you bookmark on social platforms.

Below are five Pocket alternatives listed on Uneed, ranked by how well they replace the save-now, read-later habit, with honest pros and cons for each.

Our picks at a glance

  1. 1.Resurf: Best for a private, local library on Mac

1. Resurf

Resurf is a native macOS app for capturing links, ideas, PDFs, images and videos without switching windows, then finding them later in a searchable personal library. Everything stays in your local file system instead of the cloud, which suits people who want their saved reading to belong to them. Organization is optional: items land in an Inbox and you can sort them into spaces, tags and notes whenever you have time.

“With everything staying local in the file system, how do you plan to handle the resurfacing part without syncing across devices?”, @fatisco4 on Uneed

Pros
  • Captures links and files without breaking your flow on Mac
  • Powerful search by keyword, type, tag, color, date and space
  • Spotlight-style quick search panel for finding saves fast
  • Uneed reviewers praise its polish and attention to detail
Cons
  • Mac only
  • Still in beta, with resurfacing features still being shaped
  • Local storage means no cloud copy of your library

5. Observely

Observely is a personal dashboard for organizing the content you follow. A Uneed reviewer uses it to group feeds of favorite Medium writers into categories and share those feeds publicly. It suits readers who used Pocket mostly to keep up with the same sources rather than to save one-off links.

“I recommend this app as I am a user. I love how you can organize your feeds. This makes me categorize my fab medium writers and even share them publicly. I basically promote medium articles this way as Observely lets you share feeds as a public resource...smart idea.”, @nedim-hadzimahmutovic on Uneed

Pros
  • Organize feeds into categories
  • Share feeds publicly
  • Dashboard view of everything you follow
Cons
  • Paid only
  • Built around feeds, not saving individual articles

Why people are switching from Pocket

The main reason is simple: Mozilla shut Pocket down, so its users have to move their reading lists somewhere else.

But the switch is also a chance to fix old frustrations. Many Pocket users saved far more than they read and never found things again. Others wanted to save more than web articles, like PDFs, images or social posts. And some wanted their library stored on their own device instead of a service that could close.

How to choose a Pocket alternative

Start with where you save from. If most of your saves happen on an iPhone while scrolling, PostPocket fits that habit. If you work on a Mac and want one place for links, notes and files, Resurf is the stronger pick.

Next, think about what you save. Social posts call for ContextBolt. Collections of resources you revisit work better as WebBoard boards. Recurring sources you follow fit Observely.

Finally, decide where your data should live. A local library like Resurf keeps everything on your machine and away from shutdowns, while cloud tools are easier to reach from several devices.

Tips for moving your saved links

Keep any export file you downloaded from Pocket, even if you do not import it right away. It is your only full copy of the list.

Use the move to clean up. Rather than bringing over thousands of unread links, start fresh with what you still care about and add older items as you need them. A smaller, searchable library is more useful than a large one you never open.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best Pocket alternative?

It depends on how you used Pocket. For a private, searchable library on Mac, Resurf is our top pick. For saving from any app on iPhone, PostPocket is the closest match, and for social media bookmarks, ContextBolt is built for the job.

Why are people looking for Pocket alternatives?

Mozilla shut Pocket down, so anyone who relied on it needs a new place for their saved links. Many also want features Pocket lacked, such as local storage, better search or support for social posts.

Is there a free Pocket alternative?

Yes. PostPocket, ContextBolt and WebBoard all offer free tiers, so you can try them before paying. Resurf and Observely are paid tools.

Which Pocket alternative keeps my data on my own device?

Resurf stores everything in your local file system with no cloud component. That means your library is not tied to a service that could close, though it also means you manage your own backups.

Can I save social media posts instead of articles?

ContextBolt is made for that. It collects your social bookmarks and lets you find them with AI search, and it can connect them to Claude through MCP.
